Another of my hobbies is quilting.  I've been doing handwork of all kinds for as long as I remember and I've made several full-sized quilts and a few wall hangings.

So much fabric, so little time!

This is my first attempt at a Mystery Quilt. It's called Magic Ribbons and was designed by Dorothy Young for the online group apocketfullofmysteries@yahoo.com. She will be selling this pattern in the future, so all of us on the list were "testers."

The idea behind a Mystery Quilt is that "clues" are given out with instructions on cutting, piecing and sewing together quilt blocks or units, and the final clue shows you how the quilt goes together. The fun is in making all of these seemingly unrelated blocks that fit together in the end to make a whole design. It was great fun!

The pic above shows the top spray-basted to the batt and backing. I have started the ties to hold the layers together and will add a black binding.

Here's a close-up of the pattern -

This is a variation of a Roman Stripe pattern and was quite easy.  I finished the top in about 2 hours.  It took longer to decide on the cutting dimensions than it took to complete the quilt.  I also call this my $12.00 quilt, because I got the fabric at a terrific sale for about that amount, and used almost every last scrap!  This is probably my favorite full-sized quilt and the one most often seen on my bed.

This is a 4 Seasons wall hanging using the Yankee Puzzle block.  I made this one some years ago, and I had trouble getting the points to line up, so I put fancy buttons where they all come together, and it looks just fine!  I used the "quilt-as-you-go" method, and I'm not totally happy with it, but it was a good effort!  I have a couple more wall hangings that I want to make in the near future, as well as some table stuff, and, and, and...
